Goodbye and thank you 2011 - Hello 2012 !

What a year 2011 has been for Ceroc Conexión !

With many changes along the way, such as teacher and venue changes, things have been a bit of a rollercoaster ride! But the overriding theme of the year has been the fantastic support from all of you, coming along, dancing and having great nights out. Simply put: Thank You.

2011 has given us so much that it is difficult to pick out only a few of the high lights.

An obvious one is joining Ceroc in February. This move results in higher teaching standards (the ONLY teachers in Cornwall qualified to teach Ceroc), wider choice of moves, plus much, much more.

Another is the fantastic Conexión Extra Freestyles we've all enjoyed.

Blues is also another highlight that has been very eagerly taken with lots more to look forward to!

And let's not forget the fabulous Kate recently passing her beginner examination and joining the list of highly professional Ceroc teachers. Kate will have her intermediate examination soon and we look forward to giving her our full support.

We all look forward to our New Years Eve party at Roche to officially welcome in 2012, and we all look forward lots more excellent dancing!

2011 starts with a bang!

What a start to the year so far!!!

Le Jives' newest teacher, Arron, took to the stage for the first time this week (19th Jan) and popped his stage cherry! And what a good job he did! Over the next few weeks Arron will continue to take the beginner lesson while completing his training - Please continue to show him your support and help him grow into his new role. Thanks!

With around 140 or so people enjoying Le Jive each week across Cornwall so far during 2011 and Mike DJ's fantastic Mixed Dance night on 15th Jan (there must have been over 100 of us?!) , it is proof as to the growing appetite for Modern Jive classes and events in Cornwall.

With that in mind Le Jive is pleased and excited to announce the addition of another new venue!

That's right folks, Le Jive is once again leading the growth of Modern Jive in Cornwall. So, get ready for yet more dancing, more choice, and more fun!

On Wednesday 1st June, Le Jive will open its doors in the Liskeard area. As always there is a lot to get done and achieve before we can be ready to open. And one of those tasks is forming a new team to help out at the new venue. Interested? Then why not contact us (info@le-jive.co.uk or 01326 251180) to find out more?!

We can now confirm our attendance at the Royal Cornwall Show. We'll be on stage for two one hour slots on the Saturday (11th June), most likely 11am and 3pm. Fancy joining us? Space is limited so be quick to secure you place!

Goodbye and thank you 2010

What a year 2010 has been for Le Jive?!

The achievements through 2010 would not have been possible if it were not for the amazing support from each and every person that have, and continue to, come along to Le Jive lessons and events.

I'd like to take this opportunity to personally thank everyone for their support and enthusiasm throughout 2010, especially the Le Jive Team who's help, as always, is invaluable. Here's looking forward to yet more fantastic dancing during 2011 - what exciting things will we have in store?!

You'll just have to wait and see, in the meantime, let's recap some of the 2010 highlights:

January

Le Jive officially takes over the St Tudy venue from KC Jive as Kit and Chris were due to move to Turkey. Venue number three

February

Le Jive proudly offers a range of dance shoes for both ladies and gents through Lisa

March

Record numbers arrived at St Tudy to join in the celebrations of Le Jives' first birthday! It was hard to believe that Le Jive had been going for only one year!

April

Le Jive took to the stage at the annual Food Festival in Porthleven to help entertain the hundreds of spectators. We got some unsuspecting members of the public up onto the stage for a quick lesson, much to the amusement of everyone else watching!

May

The Falmouth Venue moved to the super Devoran Village Hall. Opening night was on 5th May and it was packed!

June

Once again, Le Jive took to the stage to help entertain at another public event. This time it was the Royal Cornwall Show and we had just as much fun as at Porthleven in April

July

On the move again! This time our Helston venue moved to The Godolphin Club for easier location, parking, access and space - this really is a nice venue!

August

The "Jive-O-Thon" at St Tudy - a charity event to raise money for The Neonatal Ward at Trelisk Hospital. This event was really well attended and supported - far better than we could possibly have hoped. Another huge thanks to everyone! (The date is already booked for Jive-O-Thon II)

September

Venue number four at The Victory Hall in Roche officially opened its doors on 6th September to a packed out crowd!

October

An amazing £1,602.75 was handed over to The Neonatal Ward after all the sponsor money had been collected. Read more here:

November

Le Jive Live rocks Helston! The Hothouse Playboys, at The Godolphin Club, played a typically energetic and highly entertaining set to a sell out crowd. It really was a fantastic night. And, yes, we are doing it again next year!

December

Despite the wintery weather, great attendance at Roche throughout December  was capped off with a mid-Christmas freestyle party night on 27th Dec that attracted people from far and wide to enjoy the festive fun! It would seem that Roche is the place to be on Monday evenings!

Let's not forget the Christmas freestyle at St Tudy - what about that turkey spread Lisa put on. Hmmm!

Whether you are a dancer or not, a Le Jive member or not: Happy New Year!!!

Le Jive Live Rocks Helston

HHPB 13th Nov 2010 2.jpg HHPB 13th Nov 2010.jpg

The Hot House Playboys did their stuff at The Godolphin Club on Saturday 13th November and entertained a room of approx 100 people. Their music is often quite fast and usually more suited to rock 'n' roll, but they played a great set that gave the many Modern Jive dancers here in Cornwall a fantastic night of live entertainment

Of course, it wouldn't have been right for the band not to play some of their trade mark fast numbers and these were enjoyed just as much with gusto and laughs all the way through

The band themselves commented on how much they enjoyed playing to a crowd of people who were clearly having so much fun and pleasure from the music they love so much to play

We love to dance. They love to play music. Perfect

Will we do it again? You're darn right we will :-)

Le Jive hand over £1,602.75 to Neonatal Ward

Le Jive are very proud to have handed over such a large sum of money following the 'Jive-o-thon' event ran at St Tudy on Sunday 1st August

HUGE thanks to everyone who took part and supported this event to make it such a massive success. The following link is the article that was printed by the West Briton:

Le Jive @ Roche

Le Jive opened the doors to the newest Modern Jive venue in Cornwall for the first time on Saturday 21st August for their much anticipated 'Le Jive Conexión' freestyle dance evening.

A great deal of effort went into the arrangements and preparation for that evening, including getting the dance floor completely re-waxed. All credit must go to the team and the Victory Hall Committee for the efforts they all went to. Extra special thanks to Andy, who used his copious amount of DJ equipment to fabulous effect.

As it turned out, all the effort was well worth it. The night was well attended with lots of smiley dancers enjoying a great mix of music.

This set the scene perfectly for the opening night on the 6th Sept - the first of the regular Monday night dance classes for people to enjoy Modern Jive. And what a night it was too!!!

Photo0077.jpg

The above picture was taken right at the start of the night before everyone had arrived!

And, three weeks later, many are coming back for more fun on the floor - there has never been so much choice for people to dance Modern Jive in Cornwall. Big shout out to Stu, Jean, Edith, Adrian, Pip, Donna and Nicky

Le Jive's Charity Jive-o-thon

On Sunday 1st August, Le Jive ran a 6 hour Jive-o-than at St Tudy. The idea was to keep the floor going for six hours non-stop. We succeeded in that, but the real success was with the efforts people made to get behind the cause:

Over £1,600 has been raised for the neonatal ward at Trelisk Hospital. Handing the money over to the neonatal ward is scheduled to happen within the next week or two!

Le Jive is Moving! Again!

Le Jive dance classes in Helston is moving to The Godolphin Club. Opening night will be 1st July (still Thursdays) and will remain at The Godolphin from then on. It is hoped that the move will provide easier location, access and parking for people wishing to enjoy their Le Jive dancing!

Another Le Jive night!

Whoever said "you can have too much of a good thing"? Well, they are wrong! Le Jive is opening up venue number four to give the people of Cornwall even more choice and opportunity to learn and enjoy this fun and social dance!

Monday 6th September sees Le Jive opening the doors at The Victory Hall in Roche and then every Monday from then on for regular dance classes focused, as always, on Modern Jive

We will be running a social Saturday night freestyle at the Victory on 21st August - see you all there!!!

Le Jive is Moving!

Due to the high number of interruptions to our regular Tuesdays at The Princess Pavilion in Falmouth, we have made a difficult and inevitable decision:

Le Jive is moving the Falmouth venue from the Princess Pavilion on Tuesday nights to Devoran Village Hall on Wednesday nights where we will continue to provide quality and fun Modern Jive nights out with the same format of dance classes

The last night at the Pavilion will be the 20th April 2010 and the first night at Devoran will be on 5th May 2010

Mike DJ

We are very pleased and excited to announce that, when we move to Devoran, St Tudy regular DJ, Mike Haywood, will be joining us, providing us all with his typically high standard of music.

DJ Mike has many years of experience playing music for Modern Jive events in Cornwall and has built up something of a reputation for himself in that time - Not to mention that he's a really nice chap and dancer!

Price Changes

At the same time as moving we shall be standardizing the entry for all venues. Entry will be £4 for all venues from the start of May 2010. That effectively means everyone gets to enjoy the benefit of Gold without the need to purchase a Gold Card.

As a result we shall be discontinuing Gold and will no longer be selling them from the end March 2010

Le Jive is pleased to announce we are now offering a range of quality dance shoes

Fun @ The Princess Pavilion

We ran our last night of 2009 on 22nd Dec. To give something a little different for Christmas we ran a short fun class with freestyle for the rest of the evening.

Firstly - many thanks indeed to everyone who ventured out to attend this event. The weather that day was dodgy to say the least with many accidents on the icy roads causing hold ups. We even had people from as far afield as Wiltshire!

The night was a blast. We ran a double trouble routine with both regular demos - Kerry and Donna - taking to the stage at the same time! It was great to see everyone "getting it" far quicker than could have been hoped for and the laughter could be heard all the way to the bar! Well, it was meant to be a fun class!

We would like to thank everyone for their support during 2009 and look forward to more dancing with you all in 2010 when we shall resume our regular format of dance classes of Modern Jive

Falmouth Princess Pavilion – a few weeks on

However amazing it was, the opening night was always going to present an unrealistic impression of a regular Le Jive night at the Princess Pavilion. Some might say that the opening night was too busy. With some weeks under our belt, things have calmed to a more consistent and manageable level. The calm after the storm?

Regularly attracting between 60 and 70 dancers each week during the dance classes and introducing Modern Jive to well over 160 brand new people in Cornwall (and counting), it has to be considered that the opening of Le Jive in Falmouth has got off to a very successful start and is continuing to grow the Modern Jive community in Cornwall. While it is early days to start using words like ‘established’, the early signs are extremely positive.

Dancers attending are now enjoying improved sound quality, lighting, plenty of people to dance with and create that “buzz” while still having room to move – which is great as the floor is just so good to dance on, once you’re on it you won’t want to get off..!

Le Jive’s opening night @ Falmouth on 6th October!

Oh my! What a night!

If you couldn’t make it, for whatever reason, then sorry – here comes the salt rub..!!!

The Princess Pavilion proved to be the perfect venue for Modern Jive in Cornwall. With well over 130 people in attendance, it was packed for the opening night and there was such a buzz the atmosphere was almost electric.

Todd Dowty spoke after the event – “As can be expected, there's room for improvement, but the night was a huge success. So many smiley faces and a packed floor. Sometimes I really wish people could see what I see from on stage – it’s awesome! The energy, you could feel it!”

The night couldn’t have been such a success without the help and hard work from, as always, the Le Jive Team and others (you know who you are!) who have helped with promotion. Massive thanks guys!

Special thanks to everyone who came along, both new and experienced, making the night what it was. Let’s hope you all decide to keep coming along to the dance classes and make each week as good as that one!

Added 20th Sept 2009:

Le Jive’s Freestyle on 19th September!

Yet another great night of dancing was had by all who came along for what is becoming an established, regular Modern Jive freestyle event in West Cornwall.

Everyone who attended were so “up for it” that they couldn’t fail to create that special “buzz” that comes with a great social occasion – and everyone made lots of positive comments regarding the music!

Oh, and this time the chocolates were far more obvious – no disguising them as liquorish!

Le Jive would like to thank all who come along and make these nights what they are – we have fun and that is what it is about

St Tudys Set to Continue!

With current organizers of St Tudys, Chris and Kit Bate (KC Jive) moving to Turkey on a permanent basis in the new year, there has been a question hanging over the fate of the club they have spent the last couple of years running.

Le Jive is proud and excited to announce that, following discussions between Le Jive and KC Jive, Modern Jive events and dance classes will continue running at St Tudys under the Le Jive umbrella.

Chris and Kit’s departure from Cornwall will be a great loss to the dancing and social scene. We all at Le Jive would like to wish them both the very best of luck and look forward to visiting them when they’ve (undoubtedly) got a Jive club up and running in Turkey!

Le Jive’s Freestyle on 22nd August

With people attending from as far and wide as Surrey, Hampshire and Plymouth, this latest Le Jive freestyle was a real mix of dancers who were all up for a great night of Modern Jive in Cornwall.

A wide range of musical tempo and genre ensured that everyone had something played that they knew and liked and helped keep the friendly, party atmosphere all evening. And the chocolates were rather good too – even if some people did think they were liquorish to start with!

And, of course, it wouldn’t have been complete without a game of Switch, which seems to be becoming synonymous with Le Jive events…! If you don’t know what that is then perhaps you should come along and find out – that’s assuming we play it of course!

Added 27th July 2009:

Le Jive’s Freestyle on 25th July

With so many other events happening in the West Cornwall area on the same night, it was expected that the Le Jive freestyle would be a little quieter than the previous month.

However, with jugs of Pimms, BBQ and four hours of floor filling Modern Jive tracks, those that came once again had a fantastic night of entertainment!

To add to the night’s amusement, the Le Jive team put on a mini-show when they performed the Thriller dance – much to the surprise of the other dancers!

That’s right folks – the Princess Pavilion!

Exciting times are ahead of us for Modern Jive Dancing in Cornwall. This fun and social dance is becoming more and more accessible and with Le Jive opening at the Princess Pavilion for dance classes on Tuesday evenings, there has never been as much choice for dancers in the area!

Le Jive’s 1st Freestyle on 13th June

With people coming far and wide (as far afield as Salisbury and Southampton), the first freestyle for Le Jive was a resounding success.

Many people commented on the music and evening in general with lots of smiles to be seen all round. One such comment came from Jeff Graham from Southampton (who was something of a hit with the ladies!!!)

“We had a great time, the level of dancing was good or they were easily led, oo er mrs all in the best POSSIBLE taste OF COURSE ! I think your onto a winner there mate  ttfn if not before see you at Breeze” – Jeff Graham, Southampton

NB: “Breeze” is referring to a Ceroc run Modern Jive weekend “Escape” held on the 1st weekend in Oct at Brean, Somerset and is a must attend event!
